HASUNUMA / MITSUO
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Mitsuo wakes up one morning being able to see ghosts - ghosts who take the opportunity to possess him to fulfill their lingering regrets. The first ghost he encounters is a girl who had a crush on a classmate of his, Hasunuma, and takes over his body to confess! Mitsuo is horrified. After all, they're both guys. But Mitsuo comes out of it with a good friend. Poor Mitsuo doesn't realize Hasunuma is highly interested in deepening their friendship into something more...
I had lots of laughs watching a clueless Mitsuo being molested by Hasunuma under the guise of "bonding." XD

FOLKEN
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 4
Folken was supposed to be the next king of his little brother Van's country, but nearly died trying to perform the trial each prospective king must undertake. He's saved, and his lost arm is replaced with a mechanical one, by the evil Zaibach empire. Folken devotes himself to the country's ideals, even going so far as to destroy his old country.
However, midway through the series, Folken is disillusioned in the beliefs of his saviors, and leaves, joining his brother Van's side. It's at this time when I first really become interested in Folken. He reveals a gentle, caring soul who truly just wants the best for the world, but has committed terrible mistakes along the way. Folken gives the impression of a fallen angel... complete with black wings.
|
| |
|
 |
VAN
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Van seems to get the worst in life. His parents are dead, his brother (he assumes) is dead, and his kingdom is destroyed... Then his brother returns, changed, twisted. Amongst all this, he has to hide his white wings, a remnant of his mother's Atlantean heritage, believed to be a curse. It's no wonder the boy is surly, angsty and rude when Hitomi first meets him! His dedication to doing the right thing, and his struggle to do so, makes him a very human and interesting character. |
| |
|
 |
ALLEN
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Allen first comes across as the picture of a charming, chivalrous knight. However, he has a very human side. His father left his mother to chase after a dream, something he's never really forgiven his father for, and any mention of the man is liable to send Allen into fits of rage. He had an affair with a married queen, and an illicit son through her (something her husband became aware of before she died). He doesn't always do the right thing, and his emotions can get the better of him.
I liked him for these imperfections. He wasn't perfect, as no one is, and he makes plenty of mistakes. |

VAN / FOLKEN
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 4
Oooh, I really, really shouldn't like this pairing... They're brothers, and they're definitely blood related! But... I just can't help myself... There's something about it... It's probably their interaction during the show. Van loved his brother in the past, but seeing how Folken's changed shatters the image he held as a child. Folken never stops trying to win back Van's (brotherly) love, no matter how harshly he's rebuffed. I really just wanted to see them reconcile...
|
| |
|
 |
ALLEN / VAN
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Hitomi is back in her own world by the end of the show, and Folken is dead... Who, then can I pair Van with? Why the faithful knight Allen, of course! And... well, it'd be very pretty. =P |

|
HIRUMA
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Hiruma has blackmail material on everyone in the high school, a hobby of totting around big guns that he'll use if given an opportunity, and an all-consuming love of American football. He's sadistic, ruthless, and follows through on any threats he makes. I love him! ^_^

|
DEE
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Once a troublemaking kid on the wrong side of the law, he's now a detective. He lived in an orphanage growing up, and was inspired to become a detective by a fatherly figure who happened to be a detective. Dee is a horrible flirt, but he's a good person to have at your back, and very protective of those close to him. I liked his smirky attitude.
|
Couples
|
DEE / RYO
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 3
Ryo is straight... or so he's convinced, anyway. Dee is bisexual. Dee very, very much likes his new partner Ryo. Ryo makes token protests whenever Dee molests him, but not much beyond. More often than not, Ryo's saved by people interrupting them, rather than because he manages to push Dee off. You wait the entire manga for Ryo to finally give in and admit he loves Dee.
|
| |
|
 |
CAL / BIKKY
Genders: Female / Male
Focus Level: 2
Bikky is three years younger than Cal, but falls for her anyway. Both have been on the wrong side of the law at some point. Bikky is a horrible troublemaker, and his father was involved with some nasty characters. Cal was a thief. And both begin to calm down when they begin associating with Dee and Ryo. Bikky's devotion to Cal is really cute! They make a wonderful couple. |

CLOUD
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 4
Cloud is a contender in the "worst pasts ever" category. He grows up an outcast in his small village. When he joins ShinRa, hoping to fulfill his dream of becoming a SOLDIER, he fails and becomes just another common grunt. Upon his (secret) return to his village with the legendary Sephiroth and the SOLDIER Zack, Sephiroth goes insane and destroys his village. He and Zack are "saved" by Hojo, who use them as test subjects for a number of years before they escape. Then, Zack is killed in front of him. Is it any wonder he's screwed up? I played the game in horrified fascination, wondering what else they could do to screw with Cloud's head.
|
| |
|
 |
SEPHIROTH
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 5
I'm never quite certain where to put Sephiroth in my favorites lists... he's been on both the favorite guy's list and the antagonist's list. Since right now he's on the antagonist list, I'll list him here, too. ^_^
Sephiroth's past is nearly as traumatic as Cloud's, so like Cloud, you can see how he ended so screwed up. He was a test subject even before birth, and continued to be a guinea pig in the lab through most of his life (one assumes). He has no idea who either his father or mother are, and is toted as ShinRa's ultimate weapon. Upon finding out Jenova was his "mother," he goes insane and decides, screw it, he'll become a god!! Seeing what he'll do and figuring out why was half the fun of the game. |
| |
|
 |
VINCENT
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 4
Yet another victim of Hojo's experimentation, Vincent was at one point a Turk working for ShinRa. He falls for a scientist named Lucretia, who as part of an experiment, has a child with Hojo. That child was Sephiroth. When Lucretia is dying, Vincent angrily goes to Hojo. Hojo knocks him out and turns him into what we all know today... Overly serious and convinced of his sins, he walks through life trying to make up for past deeds. I wanna give him a great big hug! (Although he'd probably kill me...) |
| |
|
 |
AERIS
Gender: Female
Focus Level: 2
I'm almost obligated to like Aeris. I wore a cosplay costume of her to an anime convention, and began to like her after that. I've gone through periods of like and hate with Aeris. When I first played the game, I liked her. Later, she began to annoy me. At the moment, I have a fond sense of nostalgia whenever I see her. |
| |
|
 |
ZACK
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Zack appears for a grand total of 30 minutes of game play. Considering, it's amazing how many fans he's garnered! He has a strong personality which makes an immediate impression. Laid-back, strong, and funny, he'd sacrifice everything to keep his friends safe... and does. |
Couples
|
AERIS / YUFFIE
Genders: Female / Female
Focus Level: 2
Aeris, the healer and flower girl with the mysterious past, and Yuffie, the thief who steals from the group. They help Cloud on his mission, albeit for different reasons.
...It's hard to explain why I like these two. They amuse me, definitely. I also think that Aeris could temper some of Yuffie's ways, and Yuffie would add a fun and lively spirit to their relationship.
No, there's absolutely no evidence for these two, so if you can't see them, I understand completely.
|
| |
|
 |
CLOUD / VINCENT
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Cloud's pretty, Vincent's pretty, and Sephiroth's dead. Meh, why not pair together the only two pretty boys left in the game? =3 |
| |
|
 |
RUFUS / RENO
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
I blame this pairing preference entirely on fanfiction. While looking up FF7 fanfiction, I kept coming across Rufus/Reno stuff. Eventually, I got curious enough to read it, and over time, began liking the pairing.
I don't consider there to be any definite evidence for the pairing, beyond Reno working for Rufus. But with their personalities, such a pairing might create fun results. |

FINAL FANTASY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN
Individuals
|
KADAJ
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Kadaj is an interesting bad guy in that, honestly, all he's looking for is a little attention from his "mother" and "big brother". Too bad his mom's a space alien bent on wreaking havoc on the world, and Kadaj's big brother entertains similar notions. But... man, was Kadaj pretty!! And he had the funniest strut. O.o

FINAL FANTASY VIII

|
LAGUNA
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Arrgh... if only Laguna had been the main character of the game, I might have been a lot more interested in it. I liked his cheerful, happy-go-lucky, and slightly oblivious nature. After Squall's constant "..." and "whatever" responses, it was a nice change.
|
| |
|
 |
ZELL
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
With Squall as the main character, you really need someone talkative and quick to temper like Zell in the game. He was a welcome relief. |
| |
|
 |
SEIFER
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 1
Squall's natural rival. I had great fun watching him taunt and bait Squall, but didn't play far enough for me to be seriously interested in him as a character. |
Couples
|
SQUALL / LAGUNA
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 3
Squall keeps to himself. His most popular sayings are, "Whatever," and "..." Laguna is cheerful, silly, and rather talkative. It may take awhile for Laguna to win Squall over, but Squall badly needs someone silly to balance him.
First things first... Yes, I am aware of the implications of this pairing. Despite it, I really like them. *shrug* I can blame it firmly on fanfiction; I found a few well-written fics of them together.
|
| |
|
 |
SQUALL / SEIFER
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Of course, if two people are rivals, they MUST be in love! It's only natural! Really, it is! Er... right... Let's just say that any relationship they developed would be full of passion, and leave it at that. |

FINAL FANTASY IX
Individuals
|
KUJA
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Kuja is feminine enough to be a girl, wears a rather suspicious cod piece that barely covers the essentials in front, has long, fluffy hair, and wears make-up. Don't let this trick you into believing he's weak. A master strategist and a deadly opponent, he creates an army of supposedly soulless creatures to aid in his quest. Powerful and pretty... c'mon, how can I not like him?
|
Couples
|
ZIDANE / KUJA
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 3
Thanks to Kuja's interference (ie, Kuja was trying to kill him), Zidane wasn't raised by their creator. He grows up to be a womanizer, with a cheerful disposition and a never-say-die attitude.
At the end of the game, when Kuja has been defeated by Zidane and company, Zidane goes back and finds Kuja dying. It's such a sad, touching scene, I couldn't help but be moved by these two...
|

FLAME OF RECCA
Individuals
|
TOKIYA
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Tokiya's sister was killed in front of him while trying to protect both him and the legendary sword, Ensui. Since then, he's lived only for revenge. He also developed a bit of a sister complex.
Pretty, deadly, focused, and skilled. Oh, and he has Zelgadis's voice actor from Slayers. Honestly, how could I not like him?
|
| |
|
 |
KOGANEI
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Koganei is a brat, pure and simple - he has an attitude, and likes taunting his opponents at the beginning of fights. He's good at puzzles, and uses this to his advantage with his weapon. Don't let his age or size fool you, though; he's a skilled fighter, with a big heart and the will to protect those he cares about. |
| |
|
 |
RECCA
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Recca wants to grow up and be a ninja! He's probably one of the few who's dream will come true. He controls fire and eight legendary flame dragons, who all reside in his arm. O.o;; My only real complaint with his character was that whenever he was in trouble in a fight, he gained a new, amazing dragon to aid him, instead of having to figure out a way on his own.
Worst possible move you can make: Kidnap, hurt, or even breath wrong on his princess. He's a little protective of her... (which is like saying the ocean is wet). |
Couples
|
KOGANEI / TOKIYA
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Tokiya is a skilled fighter with a personality as cold as his frozen sword, and Koganei is a brat with an attitude, but the abilities to back it up. The two meet when they fight each other, and it develops into a mutual respect for their abilities.
I first ran across this pairing in fanfics. At the time, I had no idea who Koganei was. But when I began watching the series, I realized who the fanfics had been talking about, and watched for this pairing. I grew to like it.

|
 |
RECCA / KUREI
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
I have got to stop liking brother/brother pairings... *sigh* Oh well.
Recca and Kurei have different mothers and the same father. Kurei was born first, and should have inherited the clan, but the clan elders feared his power. When Recca was born, the clan elders took advantage of the opportunity to denounce Kurei as evil and made Recca into the heir. Kurei and his mother were pushed into exile, where they lead a harsh, unforgiving life. His mother wastes away. Kurei grows to hate the brother he's never seen, and tries to kill the baby one night, unsuccessfully. Soon after, their clan is attacked and Recca (and Kurei by accident) are sent to the future. Many years later when they meet again, Kurei is still bent on killing Recca...
The dynamics between them are fascinating. Nor is Kurei as completely evil as he seems, although he's well on his way there... I would love to see Recca redeem his brother. |

FRUITS BASKET
Individuals
|
KYO
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
As the cat in the Zodiac, Kyo is considered a sub-human in the eyes of the Sohma. His destiny is to be caged like a wild animal, the family fearing his other form. Kyo has lived with this stigma all of his life, and wants more than anything to be accepted. He's awkward around people and quick to temper. What Kyo lacks, more than anything else, is acceptance of both his human and true Zodiac form.
|
| |
|
 |
YUKI
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Yuki is the rat in the Zodiac, and he's considered a high ranking member of the Sohma family. Unfortunately, the clan leader, Akito, takes an unhealthy interest in Yuki, locking the boy up in a room for hours, days at a time, never letting him see anyone, and interspersing the confinement with beatings. It traumatizes Yuki, who becomes desperate to leave the Sohma clan. Like most of the members of the Zodiac, what Yuki is missing is complete acceptance of who he is. |
| |
|
 |
HATSUHARU
ie, Haru
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Called Haru for short, Hatsuharu is the ox in the Zodiac. Haru has a split personality due to being cruelly teased as a child. While his normal nature ( White Haru) is kind, thoughtful, and calm, his other side ( Black Haru) is filled with rage, and will taunt, tease, and attack anyone who gets in his way. He's very protective of his fellow Zodiac members, especially Yuki and Rin. Overall, he's a sweetie! |
| |
|
 |
AYAME
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Ayame comes across as silly, over-the-top, and... rather feminine, due to his long hair, pretty looks, and tendency to wear button-down robes that brush the floor. He runs a costume shop catering to the "romantic dreams of men," which may mean a wedding gown for a man, or a maid outfit for a woman. His goal in life is to deepen the brotherly bond between himself and Yuki, his little brother. Serious, straight-laced Yuki has no idea how to deal with him. =3 |
| |
|
 |
HATORI
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
Hatori is the Sohma family doctor, and is also the dragon in the Zodiac. (He turns into a cute seahorse!) He's serious, rather angsty, and caters mostly to the clan's head, Akito, who's permanently sick. When Hatori is younger, he falls in love with another Sohma, and the two are very happy together until Akito hurts Hatori for loving her. She blames herself so badly that she begins wasting away. Hatori is forced to erase her memories of their time together, so she can once again be happy.
Hatori can come across as harsh and mean at the beginning, but he's actually extremely kind. He's another member of the Sohma clan who badly needs a hug! |
| |
|
 |
MOMIJI
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Momiji is the rabbit in the Zodiac. From how he acts, you'd never guess that his mother considered him a monster and had to have her memories erased of him. He keeps his pain of the event locked deep within. Momoji wears feminine clothing (bloomers, lace, frills), and acts like he's around five years old, rather than fifteen. He's silly, funny, and surprisingly insightful. |
| |
|
 |
UOTANI ARISA - "Uo-chan"
Gender: Female
Focus Level: 2
Uo-chan is one of two best friends of Tohru. Uo-chan used to be in a gang, but when she meets Tohru and her mother, decides to quit the gang. Tohru's mother rescues Uo-chan from being horribly hurt or killed when she quits the gang. Uo-chan still retains a lot of her old skills from when she was a gang member, and will threaten anyone who wants to hurt Tohru. She's determined, strong-willed, and very protective of her friends. |
| |
|
 |
HANAJIMA SAKI - "Hana-chan"
Gender: Female
Focus Level: 3
Hana-chan was born with powers. She can sense and manipulate the "waves" in and around people. Because of this, her classmates feared her, culminating in her putting a boy in a coma with her powers. This so traumatizes her that she begins wearing black and staying away from people. Later, her classmates torture her, badly burning her hand to get her to display her powers, but she resists. Her parents move her to a new school, where she meets Tohru and Uo-chan. Slowly, she accepts their friendship, and they accept her despite knowing of her powers. Now, she mainly uses her powers to keep Tohru safe. |
| |
|
 |
HONDA TOHRU
Gender: Female
Focus Level: 2
Tohru's mother was an ex-gang leader and her father was excessively kind and polite. Her father dies when she's little, and in high school, Tohru's mother is killed in an accident, leaving her an orphan. She eventually finds her way into the Sohma household. Tohru has gone through a lot, but still keeps a positive, cheerful attitude and is thankful for all she has. Amongst all the pain of the people around her, she is a necessary, healing balm for everyone in the Sohma family. |
Couples
|
YUKI / KYO
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 3
Kyo and Yuki hate each other, and the fact that one is the rat and the other is the cat from the Zodiac is only a part of their hate. While Kyo was shunned from the family for being born the Cat, Yuki was honored in the family. Kyo wants to be accepted by the family, Yuki wants to escape from the family. Kyo is outgoing and natural around people, while Yuki is respected and looked up to. They want what the other already has. If they were ever able to work out their differences, they could make a really neat pair.
|
| |
|
 |
KYO / TOHRU
Genders: Male / Female
Focus Level: 3
Kyo is rather indifferent and awkward around Tohru at first, always saying and doing the wrong thing. When he starts to warm up around her, though, he becomes very protective of her. He's blunt, but he always tries to do what is right, and is willing to go through hell for the people he cares about. Tohru gives him the love and absolute acceptance he's found with only one other person in his entire life, his foster father. As such, and his crush on her, it's very easy for me to accept them as a couple. |
| |
|
 |
TOHRU / YUKI
Genders: Male / Female
Focus Level: 2
Yuki is the untouchable prince of the school, to be admired from afar. Tohru is the first to get under his defenses with her cheerful, loving nature and her earnest wish to be his friend. Slowly, through her influence, he begins to open up and tries to become a better person. She has a tendency to blush when he flirts with her.
The pairing doesn't have enough dynamics for me to be terribly interested in it, but I do still find it cute. |
| |
|
 |
TOHRU / HANA-CHAN
Genders: Female / Female
Focus Level: 3
Hana-chan loves Tohru dearly, who accepted her despite her past history and her strange powers. She wants only the best for her friend, and was mildly jealous of Kyo and Yuki, who seemed to have taken Tohru from her. She's incredibly protective of her friend. It's hard for me to imagine her having any sort of relationship with a guy that could be deeper than the relationship she already has with Tohru. |
| |
|
 |
AYAME / HATORI
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Ayame listens to no one... except Hatori. He greatly admires Hatori, and always has. Hatori, Ayame and Shigure have been friends since they were children, got in loads of trouble together, and supported each other throughout their lives. Ayame cheerful natures makes a great foil to Hatori's overly serious personality, and I would have great fun watching them get together. |

FULL METAL ALCHEMIST
Individuals
|
ROY MUSTANG
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 1
Having seen a relatively good portion of Full Metal Alchemist, I can say with certainty that Roy is my focus. With a cold personality, high ambitions, and the power to back it up, he's both interesting and complex - the type of character I want to know more about.
...Unfortunately the anime series tendency to kill people off - and an annoying brat with Ed's arm & leg - extinguished my interest in both the series and its characters.
|

FULL METAL PANIC
Individuals
|
KURZ
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 2
Kurz has blond hair, blue eyes, and loves hitting on the ladies (especially their commander). He can act really goofy, but get him in a serious situation, and he's a good person to have on your side.
|
FUSHIGI YUGI
(ie, THE MYSTERIOUS PLAY)
Individuals
|
TASUKI
Gender: Male
Focus Level: 3
He uses a fan that produces fire as a weapon, which never failed to amuse the heck out of me... especially when he used it on Tamahome!
Tasuki is the leader of a gang of bandits, although he leaves temporarily to help Miaka's quest. He has a rough, blunt, stubborn personality, but underneath it is kind and protective of his loved ones.
|
Couples
|
TASUKI / CHICHIRI
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 1
To put it simply, after all the events, Chichiri and Tasuki are the only ones left alive. And they're traveling together. It must be love, right? *cackles*
|
| |
|
 |
NAKAGO / TAMAHOME
Genders: Male / Male
Focus Level: 2
Miaka annoyed me after awhile. Because of that, the pairing of Nakago and Tamahome began to appeal to me. There were strange sparks between the two... although I can't remember anymore what they were, beyond the kiss they shared at the end. |
|
