MARMALADE BOY

Individuals

KEI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

When Kei first appears in the series, he's a childish brat who resorts to sneaky tricks and underhanded efforts to win Miki, and despite having Ishida Akira's voice, I didn't really like him.

The second time Kei appears, he's used the time away to mature. He's kind, tender, supportive, and has left any traits of bratty-ness in the past. Seeing a character change so much, and for the better, made me like him a lot.

MERUPURI
(ie, Marchen Prince)

Individuals

ARAM
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

Aram is a little kid who turns into an adult when he's in darkness. His favorite things are rice omelets, Sparkle Rangers, and Airi. ^_^ Sometimes he can act completely kiddish, displaying his true age, but at other times, he acts so much older.

Couples

AIRI / ARAM
Genders:
Female / Male
Focus Level: 4

Aram is living with Airi until his curse of turning into an adult is broken. I love Aram's honesty in his feelings for Airi, and his protective attitude towards her. In turn, I like how Airi slowly begins giving into her feelings for Aram, despite wanting a much different life than the one he would give her.

Individuals

SASUKE
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Sasuke's cold, ruthless, and darn powerful. He has a specific goal which his life is centered around, and he's willing to do anything to accomplish it - anything. Nothing exists beyond it, and he will sacrifice everything he currently has to further it.

I both admire and pity him. He lost everything once due to someone else, then loses it all again due to his own actions. But he's following the road he set for himself, and by doing it the way he is, there is (strangely enough) hope for redemption at the end...

Arrgh... Sasuke no baka!!! (Stupid Sasuke!!!)

NEJI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

My feelings for Neji have gone from indifferent, to hating him, then back to indifference, and finally to absolute adoration. He begins as a clone of Sasuke, and starts moving towards being even more of a bastard.

However, the miracle cure known as "a butt kicking from Naruto" occurs, and he transforms from a bastard to a calm, considerate partner. I love the transformed Neji! He's pretty and he's nice!

SHIKAMARU
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Like many Naruto characters, I began the series rather indifferent to Shikamaru. Later he amused me, but it wasn't until the Chunin exam that he suddenly became interesting. I like his combination of super genius and super laziness, and his ability to strategize far into the future.

ITACHI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Oh, man, do I have a love-hate relationship with this character.

Part of me is fascinated by Itachi. What are his motivations, his thoughts? What does he want to accomplish? I won't be satisfied until a good, solid explanation from Itachi himself is given to explain his actions.

The other part hates what he's done, both to his clan and to Sasuke, and can never forgive him for it, no matter what reasons he may have had.

Couples

GAARA / NARUTO
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 4

Gaara and Naruto begin their lives exactly the same - unwanted, unloved, and feared. However, while Naruto eventually gains friends and respect, Gaara stays all alone, believing only in himself. It isn't until Gaara realizes Naruto shares his pain that he begins to calm down, becoming a surprisingly calm, sane person.

These two share a bond which no one, not even Sasuke, can claim - they each are a holder of a monster inside, causing them to be despised and feared by the very village they're supposed to be protecting. Naruto is protective of Gaara, and Gaara respects Naruto's strength. It's extremely easy for me to see them as a couple.

NEJI / NARUTO
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

Neji is yet another victim of Naruto's tendency to try and fix people. Through Naruto's influence (and because Neji finally learns the truth of his father's death), Neji goes from a bastard to a calm, rational person. It's amazing what a good pummeling will do for a person's personality. ^_^

Neji highly respects Naruto, and Naruto admires Neji. If given the right circumstances, I can see it growing into more. ...But in truth, I just like the pairing because Neji is friggin' hot and Sasuke is being a bastard.

LEE / NEJI
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 4

These two are teammates, eternal rivals, and the exact opposites of each other. Neji is cool, calm, and rational; Lee is hot-tempered and passionate about life. Neji is a genius at ninjutsu; Lee is a genius of hard work. Neji is one of the hottest guys in the show; Lee is... not. (Although he's cute, in a strange way.) Even after Neji gets a personality upgrade, these differences do not disappear. And it's these differences which would make a relationship between them interesting.

They share a mutual respect and understanding between each other, and they're characters who grow and change. Neji would never judge someone by their looks alone, and Lee has a deep respect for all life. I can't help but like this pairing.

ITACHI / SASUKE
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

...Oh god, how do I justify liking this pairing, considering they're blood related and they're trying to kill each other? Well, Itachi is pretty, and Sasuke is pretty, and they'd look so pretty together, and... and... Itachi is obsessed with his little brother, and vice versa. Twist it around, and it's easy to turn it into a different type of obsession... Especially since I'm convinced that, deep down, Sasuke's really just looking for approval from his brother.

*bashes head* I blame this on Yaoi-con, where a cospay Sasuke was being molested against a wall by two cosplay Itachi's. I haven't been able to get the idea out of my head since. I still despise Itachi, but I like fics which turn him into a slightly less psychotic older brother.

HINATA / KIBA
Genders:
Female / Male
Focus Level: 2

The two are teammates, and Kiba is quietly encouraging and protective of Hinata. Hinata needs someone like Kiba, who's passionate and brash, to draw her out of her shell, but at the same time won't overshadow her. His personality seems like the type to support, which Hinata desperately needs.

NIGHTWALKER

Individuals

SHIDO
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 1

Shido is a private detective, who also happens to be a vampire. He's suave, smooth, and sexy in every way. He has silvery-purple hair and golden, slitted eyes... *drools* Needless to say, Shido was an automatic focus for me.

Unfortunately, he just didn't quite live up to my expectations. Nor can I say exactly how it went wrong, but he didn't hold my interest like he should have.

Couples

SHIDO / CAIN
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 1

Cain is the vampire who turned Shido into a vampire. For a long time, they shared a relationship together, but eventually Shido began hating being a vampire and turned against Cain. Despite this, Cain still loves Shido, and wishes Shido were still at his side.

These two are tragic, and I want to bash them both over the skulls for being so stupid.

OH! MY GODDESS!
(ie, AH! MY GODDESS!)
(ie, AH! MEGAMI-SAMA!)

Individuals

BELLDANDY
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 2

Belldandy is a goddess. No, really. She's good, kind, patient, and everything that a future homemaker aspires to me.

URD
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 2

Urd is Belldandy's sister, and the goddess of love.  She's most well known for her schemes to get Keiichi and Belldandy together. Oh, and her massive breasts.

Couples

KEIICHI / BELLDANDY
Genders:
Male / Female
Focus Level: 3

Keiichi is an underdog. He's a truly good guy, but life keeps kicking him in the face... until he meets a goddess named Belldandy and wishes for her to be with him forever. His luck gradually starts to turn around afterwards. Their obvious love for each other was cute.

ONE PIECE

Individuals

ZORO
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Zoro triple-wields swords, and his goal in life is to become the best swordsman in the world. It won't be an easy task. The poor boy has a tendency to get horribly slashed in his fights, spurting lots of blood in the process. Underneath, he's surprisingly kind, and he's willing to go through all kinds of hell for people. It's hard for me not to like his type of character.

NAMI
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 3

I was rather neutral on Nami for awhile. Then I hated her. And just as suddenly, I switched to adoring her.

Nami, despite being a thief, is a surprisingly admirable character. She's utterly devoted to her village, and would do anything to keep them safe. She's manipulative, intelligent, and one of the saner members of Luffy's crew... Something they're in short supply of! ^_^

NICO ROBIN
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 3

Robin begins as an enemy. She's mysterious, wears a cool outfit, and could probably defeat Luffy's crew all on her own, if she felt like it. Most of the time, she looks pretty cheerful. Her Devil Fruit power is also quite... handy. =P

Nico Robin interested me because she reminds me of a female Xellos. Honestly, how can I not like her, with a comparison like that?

Bellemere

BELMEIL
(ie, Bellemere)
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 3

Belmeil shows up for only a few episodes in the anime. She was a marine before finding two orphaned girls (one of which is Nami). She raises them on a small, peaceful island... until one day, a pirate merman named Arlong invades. To keep her girls safe, she's tortured and then killed.

Her story was one of the most touching in the anime, and I can still become teary-eyed thinking about it. A truly admirable character who's devotion to her children was heartrending.

ACE
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

*drool* For a One Piece character, this guy is hot. He also happens to be Luffy's older brother. He's protective of his little brother (to a point), and surprisingly polite. Like Luffy, he has the power of the devil fruit - he gained the power of fire. He's also a fierce fighter. He took on a small fleet of ships single-handedly... and won... without breaking a sweat. I was impressed.

Couples

LUFFY / ZORO
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

I have no idea why I like this pairing so much, honestly. Luffy doesn't act old enough to be in any kind of relationship - he has the mind of a five year old on crack.

It may be Zoro's obvious loyalty and trust in Luffy, as well as an inability to see either Luffy or Zoro with anyone else in the crew. Zoro isn't the type to take orders from others very easily, yet he willingly follows Luffy.

ORPHEN
(ie, SORCERER STABBER ORPHEN)

Couples

MAGIK / ORPHEN
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

Orphen takes on Magik as his apprentice (and packhorse). They balance each other, and I can't see anyone else doing the same for Orphen - Orphen's personality is very hard to balance. Nor could many people take Orphen's moods as well as Magik does. (Maybe Hartia...)

These two would probably be a higher focus if I could only find a good amount of fanfiction for them.

OUR KINGDOM
(ie, BOKURA NO OUKOKU)

Couples

Rei / Akira

REI / AKIRA
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

Akira is a poor, orphaned country boy taken in by relatives he never knew existed... and those relatives just happen to run one of the most powerful companies in the world! There, he's set up as a rival against his cousin Rei to be the head of the company. But instead of being rivals, the two boys quickly turn into something completely different...

Rei and Akira are just too cute! Rei is incredibly protective/possessive of Akira, and watching him push Akira's boundaries is always fun. On the other hand, Akira offers Rei the complete love and acceptance he's craved, as well as an innocence Rei is sorely lacking.

PLEASE SAVE MY EARTH

Favorite 5 straight couples for Rin / Alice
Favorite 10 anime/manga for Please Save My Earth

Individuals

RIN
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 5

He begins as a normal, everyday brat who pulls pranks on the girl he likes. Then, after accidentally being dropped from several stories up, he gains powers, a mysterious, deadly aura, and an equally mysterious agenda. Once you've gotten used to that, you realize he's conflicted - the child in him at odds with his new, more adult personalities (yes, personalities - that wasn't a typo). Is he a hero or a villain, a friend or an enemy?

Ooof... Rin's personality and past history have fascinated me from the very beginning, and several years later, I'm still trying to figure him out.

ALICE
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 3

Alice is sweet, kind, shy, and sensitive. It doesn't take much to hurt her feelings or make her cry. Then one night, she dreams of being in the arms of a handsome man named Shion, and living on the Moon... Through the events that follow in her life, she is forced to find the strength within her heart to keep the people most dear to her safe from harm, and to figure out what exactly happened in the past to effect the present so badly.

ISSEI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

I've wavered on Issei. Sometimes I liked how torn he was between the past and the present, sometimes his girlish moods annoyed me, and sometimes I admired the strength he could pull out from within himself. In the end, though, he grew a lot, and was able to move beyond the past.

MIKURO
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

Mikuro has psychic powers, but he wasn't from the past. He starts off rather mysterious and calm, and slowly a more human personality surfaces. Still, he's very powerful, and his powers help out the people from the Moon on more than one occasion.

Couples

ISSEI / SAKURA
Genders:
Male / Female
Focus Level: 2

Most of the time, if there is an obvious yaoi pair in a series, I will latch on and never let go. Such was not the case here. Issei's obvious yaoi interest is his best friend, Jonouchi. But this... really didn't work for me, for reasons I won't go into here (because if I do, it'll turn into a rant). Instead, I like Issei with a girl, who was his best friend from the past, and a good friend in the present - Sakura.

In many ways, by dating Sakura, Issei is finally moving on from the past. He's not getting his present mixed up with his female counterpart on the Moon. To me, their relationship represents growth, change, and the ability to move forward.

POKEMON
(ie, POCKET MONSTERS)

Couples

ASH / GARY
(ie, Satoshi / Shigeru)
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 4

Um... okay, let me get this out in the air. From what little I've seen of Pokemon, I've maybe seen Gary (Shigeru) once. Maybe. My liking of this pairing is inspired entirely from the fandom on the web, and a surprising amount of good fanfiction. Okay? Okay.

PRINCE OF TENNIS

Individuals

KAIDOU KAORU
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Of all the characters for me to latch onto in Prince of Tennis, Kaidou was the last one I expected myself to gravitate towards. Indeed, I thought my main focus would be Fuji. But somehow, someway, Kaidou became my main focus in the show.

It's probably by virtue of his personality. He gives this impression of a scary guy, and he's easily angered. ...But underneath it, he's a guy who trains hard, likes cats, is scared of ghosts, and gets embarrassed when he's praised for doing well.

FUJI SHUSUKE
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

Fuji is the requisite mysterious character who keeps his eyes closed unless he's serious, and is a genius who excels at whatever he applies his talents to. He likes wasabi-filled sushi and is the only one who can stand Inui's energy drinks (besides Inui himself).

KIKUMARU EIJI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

Kikumaru is bubbly, cheerful, and rather childish. He's very flexible and good at acrobatics. Kikumaru is one of those characters who it's rather hard not to cheer for, because he's always so enthusiastic about what he does.

Couples

OISHI / EIJI
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 3

Oishi and Kikumaru are known as the "Golden Pair" and are considered one of the best pair combinations in junior high level doubles tennis. They match each other perfectly on court... it's not hard to see it perhaps extending off court, too.

RYOMA / KENTARO
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 2

Kentaro is the captain of a rival tennis team. He's cheerful, enthusiastic, and has loads of fun while he's playing. Kentaro is one of the only people Ryoma has faced, where Ryoma looked like he was having lots of fun with the match. They also take a nap together. =3

KAIDOU / INUI
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 2

Inui supports Kaidou from the shadows, coming up with a training schedule for him and helping him practice his techniques. Kaidou admires and respects Inui, who's usually underestimated for his calculated method of tennis.

They're... cute. And I'm really, really curious what Inui looks like without the glasses on!!

RAGNAROK
(ie, LOKI RAGNAROK)
(ie, MYTHICAL DETECTIVE LOKI)

Individuals

LOKI
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

Loki appears to be a kid, but appearances can be deceiving. Actually, he's the god Loki, banished for unknown reasons from the realm of the gods. Now, he runs a private detective firm that specializes in the supernatural.

His reasons are his own, and there's always more going on underneath than he lets on.

RANMA 1/2

Individuals

Ryoga

RYOGA
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 5

*squeal* (no pun intended) Who hasn't fallen for Ryoga's bad sense of direction and tendency towards depression?

Ryoga always seems to get the short end of the stick. He inherited a terrible sense of direction from his parents, and this is the cause of most of his problems. His shyness around girls is the other cause. Most of the time, he can be seen wandering randomly around the countryside. Ryoga is deeply lonely, and he'll latch onto anyone who gives him affection (watch out for his super strength!). He's cute, and sweet-natured, and honestly all this poor boy needs is some good ol' lovin'. ~.O

Ranma

RANMA
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

Ranma is painted as a very one-dimensional character in the series itself. He's obsessed with being the best at martial arts, he doesn't respect anyone, and that's about all there is to him.

Taken outside of the humorous setting, though, and Ranma becomes a complicated figure, one which I could probably write an entire paper on, exploring his personality and how his past and present contribute to it. It's for this that I like him as a character.

SHAMPOO
Gender:
Female
Focus Level: 3

A strong Amazon from China, Shampoo displays cunning, intelligence, and the will to get what she wants. But she also manages to retain her feminine edge - a weapon she will use to her advantage sometimes. Woe to anyone who stands in her way!

Mousse

MOUSSE
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

Despite being as blind as a bat, Mousse is a capable fighter from the same village in China as Shampoo . He's mastered the art of hidden weapons, and even naked, would probably have a few things stashed away somewhere (although I wouldn't want to know where he hid them). He's stubborn and strong-willed, and I like his tendency to glomp onto the nearest object and call it "Shampoo!"

Couples

Ranma / Ryoga

RANMA / RYOGA
Genders:
Male / Male (or Female / Male)
Focus Level: 5

When I first began watching Ranma 1/2, I actually really liked the pairing of Ranma x Akane. However, over time they began losing their appeal, until I got to the point where I couldn't stand them as a couple. It was about this time that I began exploring the possibilities of a Ranma x Ryoga pairing.

Ranma needs someone who'll kick his butt when he's acting like an idiot, and Ryoga can do this. Similarly, Ryoga needs someone he can find on a regular basis, and someone who can possibly keep him from getting too lost... Ranma is, consistently, the one whom Ryoga finds the most. And in the past, Ranma kept Ryoga from getting lost, leading the boy to and from school.

MOUSSE / RANMA
Genders:
Male / Male (or Male / Female)
Focus Level: 2

This pairing was born of Mousse's stubborn refusal to wear his glasses. For whatever reason, he seems to glomp onto Ranma a lot, mistaking him for Shampoo. It amused me. Besides, after being rejected all his life, Mousse deserves to have someone!

KUNO / RANMA
Genders:
Male / Male (or Male / Female)
Focus Level: 2

Kuno as a character in the series is rather one dimensional, but his devotion to the pig-tailed girl is absolute. When push comes to shove, Kuno will usually choose Ranma-chan first and Akane second.

In something outside of the series, like fanfics, it's fun to see what kind of relationship Ranma and Kuno could have.

RANMA-CHAN / RANMA
Genders:
Female / Male (or Female / Female, or Male / Male)
Focus Level: 2

Well, Ranma certainly seems in love with himself in the series... it's no big stretch to say that, if Ranma could be split in two, he might fall in love with someone who looks exactly like him. -_-;;

RONIN WARRIORS
(ie, YOROIDEN SAMURAI TROOPERS)

Individuals

SAGE
(ie, Seiji)
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

Unfortunately, I haven't seen enough of the series to know a lot about him. I do know he's intelligent, calm, collected, and deadly in battle. He's yet another character whom I've gotten to know more through fanfiction than the actual series.

Couples

SAGE / RYO
(ie, Seiji / Ryo)
Genders:
Male / Male
Focus Level: 2

I'd probably not even be interested in this couple if it wasn't for fanfiction. Still, they're a lovely set of opposites - Seiji is cool and calm, while Ryo is passionate and hot (in all senses of the word).

RUROUNI KENSHIN
(ie, SAMURAI X)

Individuals

Kenshin

HIMURA KENSHIN
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Kenshin's personality has changed a lot over time. From a quiet orphan to a passionate student to a deadly assassin to a cheerful wanderer. Perhaps because of this, he's developed a split personality along the way.

While most of the time he's the cheerful wanderer, when hard-pressed to defeat an opponent, or when fighting an old enemy, he can turn back into the cold, deadly assassin he was in the past.

SAITOU HAJIME
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 4

Saitou used to be a Shinigumi captain, and crossed swords with Kenshin on more than one occasion. Since the end of the war, he's become "Fujita Goro," an ordinary police officer. He still retains the Shinsengumi code of ethics - "Aku Soku Zan" (roughly translated, "Kill evil swiftly"). He makes for a deadly opponent.

SAGARA SANOSUKE
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 2

Sano is a loud-mouthed, tough-talking ex-ganster who went by the name of Zamza. At heart, he's very caring, and he'd do anything to protect those he cares about. When Sano makes a promise, he'll stick to it no matter the cost to himself.  He admires and respect both Kenshin and Saitou, who have stuck to their ideals from the war despite the passage of time.

Sano's just a fun character. ^_^

SOUJIROU
Gender:
Male
Focus Level: 3

Okay, what Rurouni Kenshin fan didn't fall in love with Soujirou? Ever-smiling, the perfect killer... and if he hadn't suffered a nervous breakdown while fighting Kenshin, he would've kicked Kenshin's ass. Nowadays, Soujirou is doing much what Kenshin did, wandering around trying to find a purpose to life.

Couples

KAORU / KENSHIN
Genders:
Female / Male
Focus Level: 4

Kaoru brings a light and life which Kenshin has missed for a long time, while Kenshin provides wisdom and experience... and the ability to do chores. ^_^ They're a cute couple, as long as Kaoru isn't acting jealous.

SANO / SAITOU
Genders:
Female / Male
Focus Level: 3

I can say without doubt that the reason I like this pairing is due completely to a few well-written fanfics. Saitou's calm expertise next to Sano's hard-headed attitude is a cool combination.
