Haruka is pretty serious, but the ploys Kantarou cooks up can often put him in the worst and silliest situations. Poor Haruka. >D

Zelos is the ultimate playboy, and Lloyd is clueless when it comes to women. Lloyd spends a lot of the time being annoyed with Zelos. However, if you get the right scenes and dialogue, you can get some interesting scenes between Zelos and Lloyd.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Zelos is very jaded and cynical about his own life, and whenever Lloyd is able to look past the facade that Zelos puts up, or accepts Zelos for who he is, Zelos is deeply touched by it. It is ultimately Lloyd's trust (or lack thereof) in Zelos which helps decide a major plot point (...kinda).

More than anything else, the boy known as Dead (who watched his city getting blown up as a child and has wandered around purposeless since then) just wants to die. Unwilling to commit suicide, he challenges the strongest known warriors, hoping they can kill him, and is disappointed when they can't.
Dead is an interesting character, in that his motives are both complex and childishly simple. He's androgynous - a fact which is reinforced when he gets hit on by other guys; he's deceptively intelligent; and he knows the value of strategy.

David is a playboy who sleeps with a different girl every night. He's outwardly easygoing and friendly, and he cares a lot about his teammates. Underneath, though, is the deep-rooted pain of knowing the woman he loves is already attached to someone else - someone he can't hope to compete with.
Enter Dead. Dead and David fought once before, but while Dead recognizes David, David doesn't recognize him. They hang out, become friends, and then the topic of Dead's destroyed city comes up, and Dead tries to get David to fight/kill him.
Seeing David care about someone so deeply, someone who wasn't his love-from-afar, was touching and sweet, and I loved David's determination to save Dead.

TENSHI NI NARUMON

For the first half of the series, Mikael doesn't do much. He acts mysterious, gives Noelle hints about ways to become an angel, and acts pretty benign.
Then in the second half, Raphael enters. The mysterious mask is ripped off, revealing a much more human character who makes mistakes, gets embarrassed and annoyed, and isn't all that mysterious at all.

Raphael enters in the second half of the series, and brings with him hints of the future. He's an angel who once taught Mikael at angel school. Raphael is funny and rather silly, but dispenses good advice Mikael mostly ignores. He's surprisingly intelligent, and he was a much-needed addition to the series. Tragically, Raphael can't do much else but watch people from the sidelines and hope they don't make the wrong choices. |

Oh, god. I have no idea why Noelle doesn't annoy the living shit out of me, but she doesn't. She's so cutesy that you feel yourself developing cavities watching her, she wears pink, she's a ditz, an idiot, and her best asset is her pure heart.
But she's also incredibly stubborn, and once she's started on a path, she won't swerve from it, despite how hard it may be or the pain it causes her. She's devoted, loyal, and kind, and in the end, most of the things she does are just because she sees a loved one in pain and wants them to be happier. |

Silky is a surprisingly complex character, and you opinion on her will change several times during the course of the series. At first, you feel sorry for her, having to serve an insane master like Dispel. Then you learn she's been pulling the strings all alone. And finally you realize the reason she hates angels... is because she doesn't want to become one herself. Silky was fascinating; a great character. |

As an angel, no one but Mikael can see Raphael, and he spends most of his time annoying and embarrassing Mikael, mostly through teasing and flirting. Underneath it is a real concern for Mikael, who seems to be making bad choices. My favorite moments in the series were always the ones between these two, alternately funny and romantic, and sad and tragic.

Sydney is a charismatic cult leader who's motives are mysterious and mostly unknown. He keeps his goals to himself, and believes the means justify the end.
Oh, and he has some of the lowest hanging pants I've ever seen. Considering he doesn't have a shirt on, that's significant. ^_^

At every corner, Syndey sets challenges before Ashley, and pulls long-hidden memories from Ashley's mind... or are they memories? Syndey, in classic style, loves playing with the good guy's head. Watching Ashley's desperate chase of Syndey was amusing as heck.
Unfortunately, I never got to the end of the game, but I've seen and read enough through other means to know what happens. I blame my love of this pairing on the fanfic fandom of Vangrant Story in general and the talented Lunar in particular, who wrote an amazing fanfic series on the couple.

...These two seemed absuredly obvious to me, much more than the commonly accepted pairing of Virginia/Jet.
Maaya contantly shows up, encouraging Virginia to do her best by making them rivals. At the same time, she brings reality and exprience which Virginia is seriously lacking in. Viriginia brings a new perspective, loyalty, and a strong will.
...And in all honesty, it's been long enough, that that's all I can remember... =P

Ito has never been very feminine. She's the tallest girl in her grade (maybe the school), and she wears the boy's school uniform. Her hair is short, and she's been mistaken for a boy more than once in her life.
She's also true to herself, honest, open, and protective of her loved ones. She has a natural curiosity, and rarely hides what she's feeling. Because her family runs a dojo, she knows martial arts, and her dream is to become a female action star.
I love Ito's tough, open character, but she has a surprisingly vulnerable side, which only Makoto is able to bring out. It makes her more human.

Most of the time, Tsuzuki is cheerful, silly, and playful, but underneath it is a deep well of angst. Tsuzuki is incredibly powerful - a fact he doesn't display very often. Tsuzuki is a complicated character who's both silly and tragic at the same time.

Muraki is a sadistic psychopath who I really, really, really shouldn't like - and I didn't for a very long time. I can deal with the serial killer in him, and his tendency to torture and manipulate his victims. I can't deal with his rape of Hisoka. Rape is my biggest no-no.
But... somehow... I've grown fascinated by his character. Honestly, I want to see him redeemed (although I know this won't happen), and his pursuit of Tsuzuki is both horrifying and fun to watch, somehow. |

Theirs is a strange partnership. Mostly Tsuzuki seems to lead, but other times, Hisoka is the one to take over and lead Tsuzuki. Hisoka begins as a very un-loveable brat, however once he warms up to Tsuzuki and loses some of those brat-like qualities, he improves quickly.
They have a cute relationship. I get the feeling these two need each other for healing, comfort, and friendship. I would love to see it deepen further.

...How I can like this pairing, I have no idea. Despite Muraki's sexual advances and frequent kisses with Tsuzuki, Muraki seems to be interested in Tsuzuki mainly as a lab rat.
Something about it, though, makes me curious about it. I wouldn't want to see how an actual relationship would work between them (can we say, "blood" and "death" and "angst?"), but the idea fascinates me regardless. |

*laugh* If anyone's actually heard of these two, let me know! They're cute and cheesy and have lots of almost-moments. ^_^

Kaiba is a wonderfully complex character. His present personality is a direct result of his upbringing. His attachment to Mokuba is because Mokuba is the last of his family. His cold, ruthless attitude is due to his stepfather's brutal methods of raising him.
He's fought and fought hard to gain and keep everything he has in his life. If he wants something, nothing will stand in the way of him getting it. He's confident in himself and his ability to protect everything he cares about. He's also an arrogant bastard. ^_^
I suspected I'd like Kaiba before I'd seen anything of the show, just from what I'd heard on the internet about him. I was right. XD

In the manga, Yami no Yugi begins as a scary, mysterious figure with a damn creepy smile and a tendency to punish/kill the people who hurt Yugi. Thankfully, this persona quickly changes into the much more familiar one visible in the anime.
Yami is a spirit without memories of the past, who resided in a puzzle from ancient Egypt until Yugi freed him. He's a master gamer, and very rarely (if ever) loses. He believes in the power of friendship, and values the friends he's gained by being part of Yugi's life. He has a strong will and is very self-confident. |

Yugi begins as a weak, unconfident, bullied kid. No one is kinder or more giving than him, but people rarely give him the chance to show it. More than anything in the world, he wants friends.
Through his association with Yami no Yugi, Yugi changes quite a bit during the series. While he never loses his caring nature, he starts standing up for himself and gains confidence in his abilities. I like how he grows. |

Jonouchi is a multi-faceted character who unfortunately is never given a real chance to show many of these facets, except at the very beginning of the manga. His father is a drunk, and Jonouchi grew up a troubled kid - joining a gang, getting into fights, and bullying those weaker than him (*cough*Yugi*cough*).
When he's given the chance to grow out of it, we see a guy who's afraid of ghosts, but would stand up to torture & death to defend his friends. Loyal, self-sacrificing, and always trying to improve himself, he's a good person to have on your side. |

Mai is a strong, independent woman who knows she's beautiful and earns what she wants. She doesn't need a man to protect or coddle her, and she believes in herself and her abilities. Underneath this, Mai is actually very lonely, and her greatest fear is she will end up alone and forgotten. Every once in awhile, it will make her vulnerable, and this is when she needs the support of good friends.
For reasons unknown to me, fans seems to hate Mai. My old guess was that fans hadn't seen her, but I have since learned I was wrong... so maybe it's just the American translation of her character? Dunno. |

While initially they don't know of the other's existence, once they do, they form a deep friendship & partnership with each other. Yugi's kindness compliments Yami no Yugi's tendency to become ruthless in duels, and Yami no Yugi protects Yugi and gives him a role model.
Every relationship in YuGiOh pales in comparison to the connection these two share, and it's not hard for a yaoi-minded fangirl to take that last little step and say they have more than a friendship going... Especially considering Yami no Yugi's reaction the one time Yugi is taken away from him. XD

Surprisingly, they have a lot in common. Both are stubborn as hell and would do anything to protect those they care about, and both have had to fight to keep everything they love.
They're a standard pair in the yaoi fandom on the internet, and mainly due to fanfics, I can support it. *shrug* They're cute. |

I find them to be a cute couple. Yugi highly values Jonouchi's friendship, and vice versa, and I'd love to see their friendship become something else. |

Mai first encounters Jonouchi through a duel. With her strongly independent nature, the fact that Jonouchi has his friends along to support him disgusts and confuses her. Over time, she begins to see the value of having friends. Jonouchi sees in her what he could easily have become if he hadn't made friends with Yugi. It makes him very protective of Mai.
I think these two could make a good couple. Their relationship is rather ambiguous in the show - it could be romantic love, or it could be friendship. But Mai needs someone who understands her, and Jonouchi understands her better than anyone else. |

Kurama is a hard character to nail down. In the past, he was a powerful, gorgeous fox demon with no compassion and a trickster nature. Pissing off fox demon Kurama is bad, but pissing off human Kurama is far, far worse...
Don't underestimate the power of his plants. He's a deadly enemy in battle who uses people underestimating him to his advantage, and spews buckets of blood in the process. ^^;;

Hiei is a fire demon with a bad attitude and no compassion for the weak, but he has loads of reasons for being that way, so it's hard not to forgive him. He crushes his enemies in battle. Pray he's on your side.
Getting under Hiei's skin takes years, decades of work, and so far only one person (*cough*Kurama*cough*) has successfully managed it (not including blood relations). He's fiercely protective of those he loves, few though they are. |

Koenma is the son of Enma, the ruler of the underworld. He can routinely be found behind a desk catching up on the never-ending paperwork involved in keeping the underworld running smoothly. He's whiny, a brat, and he runs away from fights, but he does work towards the common good.
Most of the time, Koenma is in the form of a baby, despite how many centuries or millennia he has likely lived. But he does have an adult form, too, which is the biggest reason I like him, truthfully. ^_^ I'll forgive the pacifier since it's a weapon of mass destruction. |

Kurama and Hiei are the quintessential standard for partner couples. Kurama saved Hiei from a dangerous, suicidal existence. They work together and fight together, and are best friends. In truth, the only person Hiei would probably ever count as friend is Kurama.
Okay, what yaoi fan (or even non-yaoi fan) hasn't at least heard of this couple? Early in the day, they converted many a fangirl in a yaoi-fangirl (which is a whole other species altogether), starting them on the delightful path of boys-love.
