5 FAVORITE ANIME/MANGA/GAME GIRLS
My favorite females in anime, manga, and video games. #1 is, of course, my absolute favorite, going down from there.

1

SELPHIE
Final Fantasy 8

I would have quit FF8 if it weren’t for this girl! She’s cheerful and bubbly, as her yellow jumper suggests, but she’s more than the standard female character. She has her moment of mourning, anger, frustration… but she gets over it and contributes to the group. I honestly wish she was a real person so I could befriend her. She seems like fun. But more than that, she seems like the kind of friend more people need to have.

2

THE LADY KNIGHTS
Chris (of Suikoden III)
Beatrix (of Final Fantasy 9)
Rosalyn (of Okage)

These characters are all a bit different, but all the same in a lot of ways. Strong role models, who can take care of themselves… but find themselves duty-bound and nearly break from their inflexibility. The role is a sad one, but admirable too. It’s wonderful to see a person resolute in their morals, and with talent and will to back it up, but you can’t help but long for someone to rescue them from the cage they’ve walked into themselves. It’s kind of a double role. The knight and the damsel in one.

I love watching these characters, and hoping they’ll find what they need. I like their weaknesses as much as their strength.
3

BISUKE
Hunter x Hunter

It sounds odd, but I see a bit of myself in this character, along with a bit of what I wish I could be. (spoiler warning!) Bisuke is not what she appears. She’s older, strong, burly, tall, intimidating, take-charge… but she’s cute at heart! She found a way through her talents to hide her physical appearance and be what she wants to be. That took a lot of work on her part, though she’s also naturally quite talented too. Plus, she’s a fun character to watch/read, since she often provides comic relief along with important information.

4

NANAMI
Suikoden II

Playful, but ultra-protective. I love how much she cares about other characters. Her “flaws” are funny. Her strengths are admirable. Beyond that, I really liked using her in the game. She was useful, and not a healer! Her pushy side strangely made me smile. I never minded having her around, even when I had no say in the matter. And I cried at one point in the game, and again later when I got the good ending. ^_^

5

TEMARI
Naruto

I like strong females. I always hope I can be that type of person. Temari is one of the few girls in shounen manga that truly stand up to the male characters. She’s one of the few I want to put into a het-coupling above others, because there’s no other female that deserves her! I really like her character design too. It’s believable in some way.

And as a bonus, she saves a male character’s life. Without a male character to help her. And without loosing consciousness, or saving them by “sacrificing” herself. That gives her oodles of points in my book.
