Suikoden III
This works for much the same reason Chris and Hugo do. (If that isn’t creepy in some way) They are both strong and independent, resolute and leaders among their people. But Lucia sees what makes Chris less than happy as she is. In the game, she lightly teases her and encourages her, despite the fact that they really should be border-line enemies. While it’s likely that both women are straight, that’s the only thing standing in their way. And since they’re fictional characters, that can be changed!

Wild Arms 3
Really good rivals. I like the way rival characters push each other, and learn from each other at the same time. Rivals share respect, while not falling into the adoring mushy shoujo glop that bores me. They’re as likely to find a fight as they are to find a moment of romance. That makes them interesting and wonderful. These two fit the pattern to a T. Plus, they look cute together, which is always a bonus. |

RG Veda
Strange, dangerous, beautiful, devoted… twisted. They’re sweet and romantic, but star-crossed in the worst way. They could never love any one else, but they’re destined for the worst. Maybe it isn’t the worst though, they’ll never once have to doubt each other.

Gundam Wing
Since Relena really doesn’t seem to match with Heero, it’s easy to move her into this combination. Dorothy is devoted to spending time with Relena. She’s fascinated by her. They have some pretty drastic differences, and could debate forever, but I think they share respect. It’s not really rivals, but in many ways, it’s similar. |

Yes, this pairing comes from out of nowhere. But there’s a lot of amusing possibilities with them. Just think about it. I won’t try to justify more than that. If you see it, you do. If not… I don’t blame you.
